SIBU: The Sarawak Badminton team is determined to battle for the bronze medal against Penang tomorrow.
Sarawak’s head coach, Azrihanif Azahar, assured that their preparations are meticulous.
“Penang is a tough team, but in badminton, anything can happen,” he said when interviewed after Sarawak’s semi-final defeat against Selangor in the group stage here today (April 19.
When asked about the lineup for tomorrow’s match (August 20), he said it would be decided after discussions between the players and the management.
“I will make sure we field a solid team to take on Penang,” he said.
Reflecting on the earlier match, Azrihanif said that luck was not on Sarawak’s side despite their best efforts.
“Throughout both the morning and afternoon games, I was satisfied with the players’ commitment. We cannot deny Selangor’s strength, but we gave it our all. Now, our focus is to mentally prepare for tomorrow’s bronze medal match,” he added.
He also said that Selangor showed stronger mental resilience compared to Sarawak.
“You could see this in the men’s singles match. Our player won the first set, but Selangor’s player came back strong to take the second and third sets. This is among the things that I want to improve in our Sarawak team,” he said.
Today, Sarawak will go against Penang for the bronze medal, while Selangor will face the Federal Territories for the Gold medal.
