KUCHING: Sarawak is truly blessed to have talented designers and artists whose gifts must be shared with the world, said Borneo Fashion Week 2017 (BFW2017) Chairman Datin Esther Mujan Balan.

“As a Sarawakian, I am in constant awe of the richness of our culture, traditions and heritage as well as the creative energy found in our arts, fashion and style statements,” she said in her speech during the Red Carpet Borneo Fashion Week 2017 at Borneo 744 here, on Sunday.

She added that event like BFW2017 provides a platform for the local designers to showcase their talents right in their backyard, where people will come to them, instead of them going out of Kuching.

“This should in turn boost and establish the city of Kuching as a Fashion Capital of Borneo and Malaysia as a whole and maybe the Asian Region,” she said.

She said BFW also provides a perfect opportunity to promote talented local designers, showcase their unique art while providing Sarawak’s landscape as its stage.

“Ultimately, the aim of this event is to put iconic Borneo fashion on the world stage and I believe we are moving in the right direction.

“My hope is that we will be able host the prestigious BFW event on annual basis,” she said. Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib and Datin Amar Jumaani Tuanku Bujang were in the audience.
