Azri secures 3rd placing at World Championship in Maldives

MIRI: Local bodybuilder Azri Asmat Sefri clinched an impressive third place in the Men’s Bodybuilding 55kg category at the 15th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship.

The prestigious competition took place in the Republic of Maldives from November 5 to 11, 2024, and brought together participants from 13 countries, including Malaysia, India, Vietnam and Canada.

Azri’s victory marks a proud moment for Malaysia and particularly Sarawak, with his achievement celebrated as a testament to his dedication and discipline.

Chairlady of the Miri Bodybuilding Association Jamilah Ibrahim expressed her pride in Azri’s accomplishment.

“We are proud of his achievement, and his dedicated training gave its best result,” she said, adding: “Azri’s journey to this achievement was marked by discipline and hard work. His commitment to a strict training regimen, balanced nutrition, and mental focus is an inspiration to aspiring bodybuilders in Sarawak and across Malaysia.”

The championship featured a variety of categories, including 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, and Men’s Master, attracting competitors from countries such as Nepal, Thailand, Mongolia, and the Philippines.

Jamilah emphasised the broader impact of Azri’s success on the local bodybuilding scene.

“This win not only highlights his personal success but also places Sarawak on the map in the international bodybuilding scene. It is a testament to the potential and talents we have in our region,” she said.

She added, “Azri’s achievement serves as a motivating factor for our youth, proving that with determination, even athletes from smaller towns like Miri can shine on the world stage. It also underlines the importance of supporting local talents in sports.”

Azri’s achievement is expected to inspire more young athletes in Malaysia, further solidifying the country’s reputation in international bodybuilding.
