KUCHING: The Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) has urged teachers returning to Sarawak from Malaya and other states to comply with the 14-day quarantine in accordance with the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s decision announced last Friday (June 12).
Its president Ahmad Malie also reminded teachers involved to formally inform their respective school administrations that they were undergoing quarantine.
“This is to avoid any confusion or concern over the teachers’ absence at their schools,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Saturday (June 13).
He hoped that this would create understanding and a harmonious work environment.
He expressed agreement to the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the state government with regard to the return of teachers to Sarawak.
“For teachers in urban schools, they will be quarantined at home, while those in rural areas will be quarantined in hotels before they can go to their respective schools,” he reiterated.
“KGBS understands that the purpose of the quarantine is to ensure that teachers returning to their schools are free of Covid-19.”
Ahmad pointed out that most schools in Sarawak were in green zones.
Therefore, he said, the quarantine SOP for the teachers was aimed at cutting the transmission chain of Covid-19 within the schools and also the local communities, as some carriers of the virus could be asymptomatic.
