KUCHING: The State Budget ‘25 Conference, to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) soon, promises to be an engaging event for stakeholders across Sarawak and Malaysia.
The two-day event will explore Sarawak’s record-breaking RM15.8 billion budget and its alignment with the Malaysia Madani vision and the state’s sustainable development goals.
In a statement, it pointed out that as Sarawak continues its journey towards becoming a high-income region, it is essential for business investors and government stakeholders to understand the financial strategies and environmental policies shaping its future.
It added that this inaugural conference, jointly organised by the Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence Sdn Bhd (SCOPE), the Leadership Institute of the Sarawak State Civil Service, and SALIHIN International LLP, marks a significant milestone in fostering public discourse on Sarawak’s budget and regional fiscal policies.
“It is a groundbreaking event, representing the first public analysis of Sarawak’s budget and the public discussion of regional budgets in Malaysia.
“The focus area of the discussions emphasise inclusivity and sustainability, supporting Sarawak’s aspirations namely to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2050; enhance economic resilience and competitiveness; and allocate RM10.9 billion for developmental projects, including renewable energy initiatives and equitable social programmes.
“The conference serves as an essential platform for stakeholders looking to understand the transformative potential of both the Sarawak and Malaysia Madani Budgets, collectively shaping the future trajectory of Sarawak and its role within Malaysia.”
The conference will feature over 20 local and international speakers and panellists.
Among them are Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Hamid Bugo; Inland Revenue Board Malaysia’s former Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Nizom Sairi; and Agape ATP Corporation Deputy Chairman Dr John Vong, all of whom will share local and global perspectives and highlight best practices in economic strategies.
Other than that, the conference will also bring together policymakers, industry leaders, academicians, senior government officials, and financial experts for a dynamic lineup of sessions, including a keynote address by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg detailing the strategic vision for economic growth and sustainability.
“There will also be panel discussions on crucial topics such as green tax frameworks, carbon policies, and Sarawak’s digital economy transformation through E-Invoicing to advance Sarawak’s Digital Economy; Interactive Forums on the 2025 Malaysia Budget’s implications for trade and taxation in Sarawak; discussion on the economic implications of the 13th Malaysia Plan; and networking opportunities with leaders from the public and private sectors,” it said.
