KUCHING: UCSI University’s Sarawak Campus, through its Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM), has been recognised as Malaysia’s top university in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for hospitality and tourism.
The university said this award highlights its commitment to excellence in education and its innovative praxis approach, which combines academic learning with hands-on experience.
“This school of thought prioritises pragmatic, experiential learning, ensuring that students not only comprehend academic knowledge but also acquire crucial skills through real-life encounters.
“This approach is demonstrated by the distinct incorporation of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management within the UCSI Hotel Kuching facilities,” the university said in a statement today (August 16).
It added that FHTM’s strong industry collaborations, internships, and guest lectures further enhance student learning, contributing to its impressive 100 per cent graduate employment rate.
Meanwhile, Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCSI University Sarawak Campus, Mukvinder Kaur Sandhu, said the award serves as evidence of the diligent efforts, commitment, and originality demonstrated by the faculty members and students.
“We take pride in being leaders in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Malaysia, particularly in the hospitality and tourism industries, which play a vital role in the country’s economy,” he said.
Dean of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Assistant Professor Christopher Wan Sageng, said the university’s mission has always been to nurture future leaders in hospitality and tourism.
“This recognition inspires us to continue enhancing our programmes, forging stronger industry ties, and providing our students with the best education possible,” he said.
