KUCHING: The Telang Usan Hotel recently played host to the esteemed ‘Sarawak Choir Conductor’s Workshop’, attracting music enthusiasts and educators from various parts of Malaysia.
Led by renowned conductor Susanna Saw, the transformative event spanned three days from Jan 26 to 28, offering an immersive experience in choral music.
A press release issued on Monday (Jan 29) by the Sarawak Choir Conductor’s Workshop highlighted the diverse participation from Sarawak, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Kedah, showcasing a broad spectrum of musical backgrounds.
“Tailored for teachers, choir conductors, choir members, and individuals passionate about choral music, the workshop covered fundamental conducting techniques, recruitment strategies, rehearsal techniques, repertoire reading, and vocal pedagogy,” according to the statement.
Under Saw’s expert guidance from the Young Choral Academy (YCA), participants honed their skills, with plans announced during the workshop for Kuching Choral Society (KCS) to host future events, including a Choral Festival slated for June, generating anticipation within the musical community.
“The workshop aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of choir dynamics and equip them with tools to excel as conductors,” the statement continued, noting support from the Malaysian Association for Music Education (MAME) in advancing music education in the region.
Leong Chin Chin from the Sarawak Education Department (JPNS) graced the event, underscoring its significance in the educational landscape and fostering collaboration between music educators and practitioners.
The event culminated in a heartwarming moment as attendees united to sing “Untukmu Malaysia”, marking a harmonious and memorable conclusion to the Sarawak Choir Conductor’s Workshop.
