KUCHING: Sarawak is committed to developing the mining sector sustainably to accelerate socio-economic development in line with the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan reiterated the commitment during a visit to the Bradshaw Research Institute for Minerals and Mining (BRIMM), British Columbia University in Vancouver yesterday (June 6).
During the visit, Awang Tengah, who is leading a delegation Canada, discussed key development aspects of a responsible mining industry including training, talent development, and institutional framework with BRIMM representatives.
He made known Sarawak’s commitment for collaboration with British Columbia University with the local state government-owned higher learning institutions to provide mining related certified courses and training programmes.
Awang Tengah also touched on the importance of learning from Vancouver’s leading mining industry, citing the success as a benchmark to empower the mining sector which is one of the six key economic sectors under PCDS 2030.
Also present during the visit were Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak Datuk Len Talif Salleh, and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Syed Aman Ghazali.
