SIBU: Sarawak Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is ready to face the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) with the deployment of 7,000 personnel to be on duty.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said these personnel would be deployed across the state.

“At the moment, we are ready with 7,000 personnel to face the GE15, which is expected to be called anytime but the manpower may be increased depending on the situation,” he said

He was speaking to reporters at the reunion dinner for former police officers and civil servants who had served at the Rascom (Rajang Area Security Command) area yesterday.

Asked if the number of policemen is adequate to face the GE15, Mohd Azman said that they would assess the situation.

“For the time being, we reserve (the number of personnel) at 7,000 (for GE15) because this is what we used during the last state election.

“For this general election, we will do a post-mortem and increase the number of personnel if needed,” he said.

On the event, which was attended by 300 people, Mohd Azman said that his presence was to give support to pensioners, especially those who had served in the Rascom area.

“As Sarawak CP, we will give the commitment to assist pensioners in whatever problems (they faced) especially in managing pensioners’ matters to obtain ‘Pingat Jasa Negara’ awards,” he said.

Apart from that, Mohd Azman also informed that he has visited 27 out of 28 district police headquarters (IPD) across Sarawak and would complete the visit on Aug 25 to IPD Kuching.

“Through the visit, I can see for myself (the situation), where I meet up with the police officers and personnel to know their problems as well as logistics

“So, we will come up with a report and send it to the top management to give attention to these problems,” he said.

Also present were Sarawak Former Police Association advisor Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, Sarawak Former Police Association chairman Han Hapeni, Sibu District Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, and his deputy Supt Dr Collin Babat.
