KUCHING: There were no new cases of Covid-19 throughout Sarawak for the ninth consecutive day since the last one was detected in Bintulu on Aug 30.

The total number of cases remains at 699 while the Alam Cluster in Bintulu remains active with eight cases.

“Of the total, seven patients have recovered and discharged while one is currently receiving treatment at Bintulu Hospital,” State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said on Tuesday (Sept 8).

SDMC revealed that there were two new recovery and discharged cases from Bintulu Hospital, bringing the cumulative total to 676 or 96.71 per cent.

“A total of four people are still receiving treatment at hospital isolation wards.

“Two cases are being treated at Bintulu Hospital, and one each at Sarawak General Hospital and Miri Hospital.

“The death toll remains at 19 people or 2.72 per cent.”

A total of 15 new persons-under-investigation (PUI) has been reported while none are awaiting laboratory test results.

SDMC also informed that 97 new persons-under-surveillance (PUS) had been checked into hotels to undergo quarantine.

This brings the current total of PUS at 12 hotels in the state to 683 persons, while 23,660 PUS had completed their quarantine.

On the statewide monitoring of standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance, SDMC said the surveillance team, comprising 741 personnel, had inspected 1,640 premises — 187 supermarkets, restaurants (317), factories (4), banks (110), government offices (44), hawker centres (68), markets (69), places of worship (73), recreational areas (51), construction sites (15), and others (702).

“The Royal Malaysian Police issued one compound notice for non-compliance in Sarikei.”

There are also six ongoing roadblocks conducted in five districts throughout the state as part of Ops Benteng.

The roadblocks are at two locations in Lundu and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu with a total of 1,072 vehicles inspected.
