Sarawak Day celebration in Sibu kicked off with cycling

SIBU: Over 100 cyclists participated in the Sarawak Day Fun Ride to kick off the Sarawak Day celebration here today.

The programme was jointly organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Pemuda Sibu and Goheet Cycling Club and attracted both the young and old for a 10km ride starting from Bandong Walk.

The cyclists covered different areas namely Jalan Bandong; Jalan Kampung Datuk Baru; Jalan Bunga Normah; Jalan Kampung Hilir; Jalan Kampung Datu; Dataran Bandar Sibu Fasa 1; Jalan Awang Ramli Amit; Jalan Masjid; Jalan Kampung Baharu and Jalan Kampung Nangka.

Among the early risers who were excited to take part in the fun ride was Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee.

Annuar said he was very pleased that the fun ride received overwhelming responses from the local community.

“We were expecting only 100 people, but the online registration response exceeded our target,” he told members of the media before the flag off by Minister Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development said there will be a few stops along the way for cyclists to rehydrate themselves and take a breather.

“There is also a lucky draw for participants after we finish the 10km ride,” he added.

At the same time, he expressed hope for Sarawak to continue to prosper and for Sarawakians to continue living harmoniously together.
