KUCHING: The Association Of Churches In Sarawak (ACS) is set to hold the Sarawak Day Ecumenical Prayer Service on July 18, at 7.30pm at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre (CEWC), Jalan Stampin, here.
According to its secretary-general, Elder Ambrose Linang, the event, themed “May They All Be One,” aims to bring together the Christian community in a shared expression of faith and unity.
The host for this year’s event is the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kuching, with Rev Fr Davie Entalal serving as the chairman of the main organising Committee.
Archbishop Dr Simon Poh will share a reflection on the theme, emphasising the importance of unity among believers.
Meanwhile Rt Rev Datuk Donald Jule will lead the blessing alongside all heads of churches at the conclusion of the service.
“The order of service will include various themes of scripture readings and prayers, recited in multiple languages, including English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Bidayuh Jagoi/Bukar Sadong, Tamil, Kenyah, and Iban.
“The event will begin with the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang and Sarawak flag by a federal minister and a state minister,” Ambrose said.
Prayers will be offered for the Sarawak Governor, the Sarawak government, Premier, Cabinet, lawmakers, and other authorities to ensure they continue upholding religious freedom, justice, liberty, political stability, unity, social inclusivity, and blessings upon Sarawak.
“The service will also include prayers for leaders of different faiths to foster mutual understanding and respect among all races and faiths.”
Special prayers will be dedicated to all believers, urging them to promote true Christian moral values, witness to the community, and contribute to the peace and harmony of the state.
The service will highlight the importance of unity and cooperation among the people of Sarawak, encouraging them to continue their efforts in serving the state.
Additionally, prayers for global peace, justice, and righteousness will be offered, reflecting the event’s commitment to universal harmony.
“ACS invites all Christians in the city to join the prayer service as a symbol of unity in the Lord. It is an opportunity to pray for Sarawak and Malaysia, fostering a spirit of goodwill among different races, beliefs, and cultures.
“The event aims to combat racial polarisation and religious extremism, which threaten the fabric of society that has driven Sarawak and Malaysia’s progress.
“The service will feature a combined choir led by Grace Boniface Deyoi, accompanied by pianists Daniel Steven Lugo and Tristian Daley, and Sape players Jennifer Santan Liman and Isidore Micah.”
All Christian members of state and federal governments, heads of departments, and leaders of interfaith groups such as Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, and Bahai communities have been invited to attend in the spirit of ‘Segulai, Sejalai.’
