KUCHING: The Sarawak Deaf Sports Association finished runner-up in the Malaysian Deaf Tenpin Bowling Open Championship held in Perak from June 27 to 30.
Among the bowlers who contributed medals were Siw Sing Hie (gold for women’s individual) and Sia Chew Ing and Siw in the women’s doubles.
“Additionally, in the men’s doubles, Sarawak secured a bronze medal through Lau Yok Lok, Hillary Mupug, Agan Ballang Kapong and Abang Muhammad Fakhri Abang Kamarudin.
“Meanwhile, the women’s team also won a silver medal through Siw Sing Hie, Sia Chew Ing, Nurul Farhanna Wahab and Maggie Paya Udau.
“Furthermore, Siw also won a bronze medal in the women’s all-events category. Sia, Abang Mohamad Fakhri and Agan Ballang were among the top 10 in their respective all-events categories,” the association said in a statement.
Before participating in the championship, the team had spent RM1,392 of their own funds for 12 training sessions and had sent letters requesting financial contributions from various parties.
“However, to date, the association has not received any financial contributions from any parties.
“The total cost of participating in this championship was RM8,058, including airfare, insurance, accommodation fees, catering fees, competition fees, and other related costs,” the association added.
The association is still hoping for contributions from the public to cover expenses for upcoming championships.
