KUCHING: Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn visited the Science Centre Singapore to discuss on Sarawak’s own science centre master plan.
He led a delegation from the ministry, the Sarawak Attorney-General’s Chambers, Sarawak Human Resources Unit and Borneo Development Corporation (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd to the centre yesterday.
They were welcomed by Science Centre Singapore chief executive officer Dr Lim Tit Meng and top management.
Sagah was given a tour of the centre’s facilities, exhibits and programmes, and members of the delegation also had the opportunity to experience hands on, immersive and interactive exhibits at the centre.
Both parties discussed the finalisation of the Sarawak Science Centre Master Plan as well as the recommendations and next steps.
The Science Centre Singapore, through its commercial entity Singapore Science Centre Global, are the masterplanners for the proposed Sarawak Science Centre project.
“The Science Centre Singapore is known as the most established science centre in the region and entrusted by Singapore’s Ministry of Education to nurture interest in STEM, as well as STEM talents.
“The Sarawak delegation and Science Centre Singapore also discussed future possibilities of the Sarawak Science Centre being a sister science centre to the one in Singapore through collaborative science and technology based programmes,” a statement said.
Deputy ministers Datuk Francis Harden Hollis and Dr Annuar Rapaee, and ministry permanent secretary Datuk Kameri Affandi were present.
Also in the delegation were Sarawak Human Resource Unit director Datuk Ismail Hanis; senior state counsel with the Sarawak Attorney-General’s Chambers, John Wayne Chamberlin Sirau; Sarawak Research and Development Council general manager Dr Peter Morin Nissom, BDC chief executive officer Nor-E Fadzwie Salleh and senior ministry officials.
