SIMANGGANG: Sarawak claimed a stunning victory, securing three gold medals in the final boxing matches at the Sri Aman Indoor Stadium last night (Aug 22).
The highlight of the evening was Clarkson Evans Tom Frankie’s dominating performance in the minimum weight (48kg) category. He secured the first gold medal for Sarawak by defeating Kedah’s Thanasekaran Rajendran with a flawless 5-0 score.
Sarawak’s second gold came from Gideon Riquelme Jonathan in the middleweight (75kg) category. Gideon confidently dominated his bout against Federal Territories’ Muhd Ayyub Firdaus Rusdi, also winning with a 5-0 score.
In the women’s featherweight (57kg) category, Hamiesha Hamdan added another gold to Sarawak’s tally. She defeated Selangor’s Balqis Dayana Badrol Hisham, securing a 5-0 win.
However, Sarawak had to settle for silver in both the lightweight (57-60kg) and welterweight (63.5-67kg) categories.
Lam Wee Ling was defeated by Selangor’s Hazman Iskandar Zulkifli Siew, finishing with a 1-4 score in the lightweight category.
In the welterweight bout, Anderton Tie Teck Hieng lost to Johor’s Muhd Ariff Aiman Mohd Farid with a 0-5 score.
In the women’s minimum weight (45-48kg) category, Patricia Jaquilina Bruce managed to secure a silver medal for Sarawak.
The hosts’ bronze medals were earned by Khairil Hazami Sulam in the bantamweight (54kg) category and Bradley Jilan Kennedy in the cruiserweight (86kg) category.
