KUCHING: The results of the recent 16th Sabah State Election (PRN-16) will not be a reflection of how Sarawak will fare in its own upcoming state election, said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He pointed out that the perceptions and sentiments of the people of Sabah and Sarawak were different.

“Any state election is different. Sabah has its own sentiments and perceptions of its people. Sarawak is different and the same goes for Malaya.

“Therefore, it is important for GPS in Sarawak to provide the best service to the people so that it will be supported by the people.

“They should give another opportunity to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and GPS to bring Sarawak to the next level,” he said.

Fadillah was interviewed during a visit to the construction site of the Masjid Darul Naim building in Kampung Lintang here on Sunday (Sept 27).

In the recent Sabah polls, opposition mammoth coalition, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) managed to win 38 seats while the previous state government led by Warisan Plus 32 seats. The remaining seats were won by independent candidates.

On GRS’ victory in the Sabah state election, Fadillah, who is Works Minister, said it showed the democratic process was going well.

He hoped that after this, priority would be placed again on efforts to combat and curb the spread of Covid-19 as well as focus to develop the state and the country.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) senior vice president stressed that all parties should work together to find solutions to address problems in the interest of the people.

“This time is not for us to play politics but to focus on economic recovery and the wellbeing of the people,” he said.
