SERIAN: The standard operating procedure (SOP) for the Melaka polls will most likely be implemented in the 12th Sarawak Election as well, says Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women chief added that the state government and other relevant agencies were scrutinising the Melaka polls SOP.
“What is implemented there will most likely be implemented here, including disallowing physical campaigning and so on.
“This is to ensure the safety of the people at this time as we are not yet free from Covid-19,” she said during the Bukit Semuja PBB Women meeting here on Tuesday (Nov 9).
She said they were also waiting for an announcement from the Election Commission (EC) on the matter.
“When it is announced later, we should avoid doing things that violate the rules or carry out activities such as before (Covid-19), if we break the rules, it will be difficult for us later.
“We (women) also can’t ‘turun naik’ (pay visits) to homes (to meet the people) and campaign – we have to campaign according to the new norm via social media.”
Fatimah also reminded the people to be vigilant and continue to prioritise their health.
“We must also remember that our safety still needs to be taken care of. At this time, we are also concerned for those who cannot make it to their respective polling station on polling day due to quarantine orders.
“Therefore, we need to ensure that we take good care of our health and hygiene because every vote is important.”
