KUALA LUMPUR: The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Sarawak Energy have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster collaboration in critical areas of mutual interest.
It will particularly focus on enhancing the talent pipeline and building student capability and driving impactful research for the renewable and sustainable energy sector.
Sarawak Energy in a statement lauded the MoU signing, saying it marked a significant milestone in the collaboration between IIUM and Sarawak Energy, paving the way for future joint initiatives.
The MoU was signed by Deputy Rector of Academic and Internationalisation at IIUM Prof. Dr. Ahmad Faris Ismail, and Group Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Energy Datuk Haji Sharbini Suhaili, witnessed by Senior Vice President for Legal and Compliance at Sarawak Energy George Chapman, and IIUM’s Dean of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws Prof Dr Farid Sufian Shuaib.
Central to the agreement is the provision of internship placements for IIUM students within Sarawak Energy, offering them invaluable practical experience in the energy sector.
Additionally, Sarawak Energy’s Campus Ambassador Programme aims to deepen engagement with IIUM through various educational initiatives.
“This partnership will significantly enhance our research capabilities and provide extensive opportunities for our students and faculty across disciplines such as law and engineering to collaborate closely with industry experts,” Dr Ahmad was quoted as saying.
On the same note, Sharbini affirmed the organisation’s dedication to nurturing a skilled workforce, particularly in the context of sustainable practices and climate change resilience.
“This MoU serves as another step in our journey towards developing a comprehensive, open, and collaborative ecosystem of nurturing young talents to be part of the firsthand experience in renewable and sustainable practices within our business and operations,” he said.
