KUCHING: Fire victims of Uma Sambop, Long Semutut in Belaga heaved a sigh of relief as they were given the necessary assistance by Sarawak Energy.
The assistances were presented to Uma Sambop Asal’s longhouse Chief Maren Uma Matu Lian and Uma Sambop Batu Pilau’s longhouse Chief Maren Uma Catherine Bungan.
In a statement today, Sarawak Energy said its team also arranged for the supplies, which consists of food aid and essentials to be distributed among the families from the 86 affected households.
On July 12, the 86-door Uma Sambop longhouse were razed in an evening fire leaving its 680 villagers homeless.
Firefighters from the Belaga Fire Station were rushed to the scene which is located 69km away.
Water storage tanks and open water sources were used to put out the fire. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Present at the handover of the relief assistance were Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang who is also Belaga assemblyman, Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong and Belaga’s District Officer Juan Ubit, among others.
