KUCHING: Sarawak Energy is committed to enhancing the reliability of electricity supply in the Simunjan and Sadong Jaya areas.
The utility company said ongoing improvement initiatives were underway to address frequent supply interruptions caused by weather, vegetation and other conditions, and electricity to these areas was currently supplied through a 90km-long overhead line, which is susceptible to outage interruptions.
Immediate measures, such as line inspection scanning, extensive vegetation clearing along the line and pole top maintenance had been implemented to address the challenges and mitigate disruptions.
“Sarawak Energy is laying new 33kV underground cables to the Asajaya 33kV substation, and from Serian to Gedong Junction, to reinforce supply to Simunjan, thereby shortening the distance of the lines that supply electricity to these areas.
“The use of underground cables will eliminate interruptions caused by adverse weather conditions or contact with animals or trees.
“Other planned improvement initiatives include 11kV system reinforcement in the Asajaya and Sadong Jaya areas, equipment and facility upgrade in Simunjan, Asajaya and surrounding areas as well as digitalisation efforts such as the remote monitoring switching system to enable quick action in reducing electricity supply downtime,” it said on today (April 13).
Acknowledging minor service interruptions may be experienced during the upgrade and improvement works, Sarawak Energy stressed that it was committed to minimising disruptions as much as possible and sought for the understanding and cooperation from customers.
Sarawak Energy’s regional manager for distribution Western Region, Nazry Abdul Latip said the company was committed to expediting and ensuring the successful completion of these enhancement plans.
“Rest assured that we have allocated all necessary resources to implement these enhancement plans expeditiously and safely. Our goal is to provide uninterrupted electricity supply to our customers, regardless of the time and location.”
He also stressed on the potential danger of orchards and trees planted near electrical lines in these areas, which can pose risks of electrocution and supply interruptions.
“Sarawak Energy urges the public to be mindful of this and refrain from planting trees near the lines.”
Sarawak Energy also seeks cooperation from the public to immediately report any outages to enable the technical team to promptly restore the supply.
