KUCHING: Continue to protect and preserve the harmony, peace and unity of Sarawak’s multiracial society, says Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
The Deputy Premier said that Sarawak is an example of how people of various racial and religious backgrounds could live together as one community.
“We have been an example to every state in Malaysia of how peaceful we are living here as a society and I hope in many years ahead this will continue on through many generations.
“Therefore, it is important that we need to preserve and protect this united and harmonious society. Do not let anyone disrupt the peace that we have today,” he said.
Uggah said this after attending the light switching ceremony in conjunction with the Christmas celebration at Padungan White Cat statue, last Wednesday night (Nov 30).
Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, religious leaders and other guests.
“With this unity, we will continue to build Sarawak to a higher level and become a developed state by 2030 as targeted by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“This will benefit every level of society in Sarawak,” he added.
He also urged the community to continue practising the culture of visiting each other to further strengthen the relationship among the community during this coming festive season.
