MIRI: Sarawak’s determination to become the overall champions of the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) remains strong.

Sarawak chef de mission (CDM) and Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu  expressed confidence in the state’s ability to achieve this ambitious goal.

Speaking about the challenges faced, he acknowledged the stiff competition faced by Sarawak at the SUKMA.

“It’s not easy, but with all the support we have, we’re ready for it. We can compete with anyone, and the next two to three days will be crucial for Sarawak to secure victory,” he said.

Rentap also highlighted the overwhelming support received from the people of Sarawak, particularly during the silat event here.

“The turnout was incredible. The arena was full, and the energy was palpable,” he said, adding this support  fuels the athletes’ passion and drive to win medals.

For the record, Johor were the overall champions in the last edition.

Rentap also took the opportunity to thank Datuk Rosey Yunus, who has been serving as the assistant chef de mission (ACDM) for the sailing events.

“I extend my gratitude to Datuk Rosey Yunus, who has been like a ‘mother’ to our athletes, ensuring their welfare and well-being are taken care of,” he added.
