SARAWAK aims to secure a share of the Asia-Pacific aerospace aftermarket, projected to be worth RM15 trillion over the next 20 years.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this initiative aligns with the Federal Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry’s (MITI) proposal to position Sarawak as the aerospace hub for Borneo, expanding the state’s economic growth strategy.
“Our plan to build a new airport in Kuching will provide the modern infrastructure needed to support and grow the aerospace industry,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech today (Nov 20).
The International Trade and Investment Minister added that the Sarawak government has implemented strategic measures to create a sustainable ecosystem for the aviation and aerospace sector.
These measures include establishing the Aerospace Academy at CENTEXS to develop a skilled local workforce capable of supporting aerospace manufacturing and aviation technology.
Awang Tengah also highlighted Sarawak’s efforts to collaborate with global aerospace leaders such as Airbus and Boeing to strengthen the state’s presence on the international stage.
“Additionally, a technology centre is being developed to focus on the design, development, manufacturing, integration, and testing of aerospace systems,” he added.
