KUCHING: The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Singapore (STATOS) is urging Sarawak companies to host interns from Singapore to facilitate the exchange of best practices from related industries.

Its deputy chief executive officer Putrie Rozana Soraya said following Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s directive during STATOS’ establishment, they are focused on bringing more students from Singapore to Sarawak.

“We recently conducted a session on the Digital Economy Project, in line with the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, presented by the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).

“This session enables Singaporean students to understand Sarawak’s approach to digital literacy in rural areas, showcasing numerous initiatives ongoing in Sarawak,” she said when met by reporters during a visit programme for students from Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore to Sarawak here yesterday (May 8).

Meanwhile, the SMA general manager Datuk Dr Anderson Tiong said the trainee intake programme from Singapore could have various benefits, especially in terms of economic digitalisation, for both the trainees and Sarawak.

“We provided them with an overview of the Sarawak Digital Economy Action Plan 2030 and our strategic direction towards digitalisation.

“Through this programme, I hope it will benefit them and the state. We might attract talented interns with potential and also engage them in conducting studies related to the industry post-graduation,” he said.

Earlier, students from the Temasek Polytechnic visited Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, the PERKATA Special School, and various tourist landmarks such as the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and the Sarawak Cultural Village.

A total of 62 delegates from the School of Informatics and IT, and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences participated in the five-day study tour to Sarawak organised by STATOS.
