KUCHING: Sarawak is the first in Malaysia to host the Level 3 Event Design Certificate (EDC) programme which enables business event practitioners to obtain the Certified Event Designer (CED) designation.

BESarawak, in association with the Malaysian Association Of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (MACEOS) and local industry partner ARC Creators, is making it easier for Sarawak’s industry partners to acquire their CED designations.

“Education and training are Sarawak’s foci to developing and nurturing human capital in the business events industry. International certifications are vital as it meets the needs of our industry and the needs of the state to progress.

“Not only can our partners deliver quality international business events, but widen their opportunities to collaborate with the private and government sectors to propose more events that will provide a platform to develop Sarawak’s economies and support social development — contributing to the state’s social and economic transformation,” said BESarawak CEO Amelia Roziman.

Meanwhile, BESarawak’s general manager for Capacity and Digital Development Dylan Redas Noel said this is a much-needed development for Sarawak’s industry partners to continue pursuing international recognition and value.

“National and international business event planners have a growing appetite for creative and engaging conventions, hence we are determined to certify more industry partners and raise their professionalism via international courses.

“As the first destination in the country with potentially the most Certified Event Designers, it gives Sarawak a competitive advantage and opportunities to grow the local talent pool, thus contributing to the national business events industry development.” he said speaking from the perspective of capacity development.

Meanwhile ARC Creators’ chief technology officer Ronald Lim said: “As one of the first three Certified Events Designers in the country, I have seen the methodology and process helped me to design better conferences.

“I hope that by organising more CED cohorts in Sarawak, we can all level up and deliver more sustainable and quality business events. We are grateful that BESarawak understands the importance of upskilling and growing the industry partners.”

The Event Canvas Methodology, a strategic management method for creating event and conference models where success is assessed by behaviour change, is said to provide CED applicants with core knowledge, skills, and resources.

Candidates should be able to think creatively and develop appealing conventions that add value for planners, attendees, and other stakeholders after completing the half-year course.

For the EDC programme which is held at Pullman Hotel and comprises an ongoing three-day professional course from Feb 6 to 8 , followed by a six-month coaching term, 27 industry partners have signed up.

BESarawak offers partners headquartered in Sarawak financial aid for certification programmes.
