KUCHING: Sarawak Flag will be flying high
at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) buildings in conjunction with the state’s 56th Independence Day today.
MBKS Mayor, Datuk James Chan told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday the white cat statue in Padungan would also be “nicely decorated” with Sarawak Flags as well as the “appropriate Sarawak Day caption”.
“It is indeed a celebration welcomed by Sarawakians as a mark of our sovereignty. The MBKS’ main building will be, in the evening of July 22, properly lit to celebrate the significance of the day.
“Decorative lights will also light up Padungan in conjunction with the celebration,” said Chan.
He added the three MBKS’ prime markets, Stutong Community Market, Kenyalang Park Market and Petanak Market, would also be brightly lit for the occasion.
Asked to comment on Sarawak’s Independence Day, Chan said, “We should be proud of our identity as Sarawakians and the celebration marks the independence of our state.
“We must all support our leaders in their quest to regain the rights for our people for a more harmonious Malaysia.”
