KUCHING: Sarawak is prioritising the wellbeing and readiness of its athletes to reclaim the overall championship title at the upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma).

Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) chief executive officer Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan said the Sarawak government has made extensive preparations regarding athletes’ performances, including their motivation, as well as sports equipment.

“We have a counselling unit where the sports officer will inform us of any lack of motivation, enabling us to address it early and bring in counselling experts to handle the issues.

“In the last Sukma, the athletes performed well, but they became nervous when they reached the quarter-finals.

“This is why we brought in motivation experts to organise various motivation camps and advice sessions for our athletes.”

He said this during the Juh Randau programme by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) at the UKAS Studio on today (July 2).

On a related note, Awang Putrayusrie stated that SSC is reviewing sports facilities to meet Sukma standards and will promptly address any issues for smooth operations.
