KUCHING: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has intensified its efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade, recently arresting a local man suspected of selling monitor lizard meat without the necessary permits.

SFC in a Facebook post said the operation was the result of a month-long intelligence-gathering initiative aimed at identifying individuals involved in the unlawful trade of wildlife.

During the enforcement action, a team comprising six SFC officers and three Wildlife Game Rangers (WGR) conducted a thorough inspection of the suspect’s activities.

The operation led to the seizure of 80.4kg of suspected monitor lizard meat, which was found stored in seven transparent plastic bags.

The meat was confiscated as evidence, and a formal police report has been filed to initiate further legal proceedings against the suspect.

SFC appealed to the public to protect and conserve wildlife by reporting any suspicious or unlawful activities related to wildlife trade.
