Sarawak – Fujian sign MoU to boost tourism

KUCHING: The Sarawak government and the Fujian Provincial Department of Cultural and Tourism, China, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen tourism, culture, and arts cooperation between the two regions.

In a press statement, the MoU was signed by Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Hamzah and Fujian Provincial Party Secretary Zhou Zuyi during a courtesy call by the Fujian delegation to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.

The MoU aims to deepen the sister province-state relationship and create more opportunities for the people of Sarawak and Fujian.

It will also promote exchanges and cooperation between the two regions in various fields such as economy, trade, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

As part of the MoU, entrepreneurs will be encouraged to participate in expos held in both cities, while artists will be invited to attend festivals like the Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival in Quanzhou and the Kuching Festival in Kuching South.

Educational cooperation will also be promoted, including exchange programmes between schools in both cities.

The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian; Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I, Datuk Sebastian Ting; Mayor of the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Datuk Wee Hong Seng; Deputy Secretary-General of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Director-General of the General Office of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Zhou Kuanfen; and other dignitaries.
