KUCHING: The Sarawak government welcomes the proposal by the Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC) for the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) to include asset declaration in the key performance indicator (KPI) of ministers.
Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stated this yesterday in response to a press statement by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya on Tuesday.
Mahathir had said all ministers must ensure members of the administration under their ministries declare their assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The prime minister added, “All ministers and deputy ministers, and we will extend it to all members of parliament, even if they are in the opposition.”
Fadillah pointed out the Sarawak government was the first state government to sign the Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) with the MACC in January 2017.
“The state Cabinet was also recognised by MACC as the first Cabinet to sign the (IBR) oath with MACC in January 2017.
“In fact, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, has already directed all members of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to declare their assets and property,” he added.
Fadillah revealed the state government was still waiting for the format set by the GIACC and the MACC before sending MACC all declarations submitted to the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office including those of the GPS MPs.
“I personally take the issue of corruption seriously. When appointed to lead the Ministry of Works (KKR) in 2013, the first step I took was to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with MACC.”
He said the MoU between the KKR and the MACC was signed on July 1, 2013, making the KKR the first ministry in the country to sign an “Integrity Pact” with the MACC.
“This shows that GPS is serious about eradicating corruption and abuse of power, especially in the government sector,” said Fadillah.
