KUCHING: The Sarawak government is highly confident that the legacy of unity, which has been practiced for decades, will be carried on by the future generations.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed out that the people of Sarawak serve as an example of unity in diversity, with a focus on the concept of ‘Segulai Sejalai’.
“The unity demonstrated by the multi-racial communities in Sarawak has not only set an example for Malaysia but also for the world.
“This unity is attributed to the foundation laid by previous leaders, and I believe that the people’s tolerance and togetherness will continue to be the backbone of community development in the state,” he said at the state-level National Month programme here on Thursday (Aug 3).
“Furthermore, unity plays a crucial role in ensuring political stability and stimulating the state’s economy.
“As the state’s economy continues to grow, the people of Sarawak will reap the benefits of overall socioeconomic development.
“The approach implemented by the state government, through initiatives and incentives under the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), has been successful in propelling Sarawak towards its target of becoming an advanced state by 2030.”
Despite challenges posed by the Covid-19 situation, Sarawak’s income increased significantly from RM7.62bil in 2021 to almost RM12bil in 2022, he highlighted.
Abang Johari expressed appreciation for the significant programme organised by the Sarawak Information Department (JaPen), which highlights patriotic elements oriented towards diversity in unity, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani.
The programme was attended by several key leaders, including Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, State Federal Secretary Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan, Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Khirudin Drahman, Army Eastern Field Commander Lt-Gen Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi and Sarawak JaPen director Jaafar Jantan.
