Sarawak govt extends aid to families of regatta tragedy victims’ families

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Sarawak government has extended donations to the families of five men who tragically lost their lives in the regatta training accident on the Sarawak River last week.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki personally presented the donations during his visit to the homes of three victims—Mohamad Ikhmal Sama’ail, Muhammad Khairul Hisham Kasturi, and Mohd Afiq Isyamudin Asaari—on Wednesday (Oct 23).

His arrival was met with open arms as families of the victims gathered to welcome him and his entourage.

They also spent time together, sharing moments of reflection and support in a time of deep loss.

In addition to the Sarawak government’s contribution, Abu Bakar also handed over donations on behalf of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and several other agencies, including the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS), Human Resource Management and Development Unit (UPPSM), Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) Sarawak, the Sarawak Administrative Unit, Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) and Kota Samarahan MAKSAK Division.

It is understood that donations for the remaining two victims, Majurie Maharuf and Khairul Bidin, will be delivered soon.

Among those accompanying the visit were UPPSM director Sharifah Rohana Datu Wan Alwi, UKPS director Datuk Dr Chai Khin Chung, JKMS director Semawi Mohamad, Kota Samarahan Resident Mohamad Irwan Bahari Bujang, Kota Samarahan District Officer Ahmad Abdul Razak, and Asajaya District Officer Jerry Zannuddin Bidin.
