MUKAH: The Sarawak government has provided full funding amounting to RM4mil for the construction of two new national school (SK) buildings in Mukah – SK Kuala Kenyana and SK Pengkalan Lobang.

Acting Mukah District officer Peleadzman Ahip explained that the reconstruction of these school buildings was financed using funds from the Forest Concession Area Fund Board (LKWKKH). “The money is a way of giving back to the community involved in logging activities in the area.”

He was speaking to the media during the handover of school uniform vouchers for needy students at the Mukah District Office yesterday.

The cost for rebuilding both SK Kuala Kenyana and SK Pengkalan Lobang amounted to RM2mil each. The allocation for this project was approved by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The construction was necessary as the existing buildings were declared unsafe for use by the Public Works Department (JKR). He noted that there was a proposal to relocate SK Kuala Kenyana, but this may not be implemented as new buildings have been constructed on the current site.
