KUCHING: The state government hopes to complete the take-over of three entities from the federal government by the end of the year, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said.
While naming two of the entities which he had announced previously he chose to keep mum on the third takeover.
“There are three matters that we are currently negotiating (to take over) with the federal government are Bintulu Port, MASWings, and the third one … ‘tunggu dolok’ (wait first),” he said.
He was fielding reporters’ questions after officiating at the Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (UKAS) fifth anniversary celebration last night (Aug 1) at Pullman Hotel here.
Abang Johari said these matters would complement the state’s economic system and make it stronger, thus elevating the status of Sarawak.
He said the state’s visionary economic policies and initiatives have become the envy of Putrajaya.
“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said that we are very advanced and more forward than the federal government. If we look at ‘Ekonomi MADANI especially on energy transition, it is similar to our Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 which we introduced and started much earlier,” he said.
At the same time, Abang Johari said Sarawak’s future is bright considering many parts of the world have begun to recognise and acknowledge the state’s farsightedness in various sectors, such as green energy and hydrogen.
“There are many ambassadors in Malaysia who are eager to meet me because they are interested to know how they can collaborate with us. Our new economic approaches have become a new identity for us because among others, we are the only place in Southeast Asia to produce hydrogen.
“In fact, I have been invited to speak at an upcoming energy conference in Bali. This is one of the many conferences that I have been invited to and it shows that the world is watching us,” he said.
