SIMUNJAN: The Sarawak Government is set to announce a salary increase package within the next month and a half.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari said a comprehensive study will be conducted before making the announcement, as it is necessary to carefully evaluate the offerings put forth by the federal government.
“We will announce the package after conducting a thorough study at the state level within a month and a half.
“Because there are financial implications, we have our responsibilities. God willing, we will be able to bear the increase, which we will announce later,” he told reporters after officiating at Simunjan district-level Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri at Dewan Mesra Simunjan today (May 1).
He was asked to comment on the incentives for civil servants that was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier today.
The prime minister announced that civil servants would enjoy a record-breaking 13 percent increment, starting on December 1.
However, Anwar stressed that any civil servant who did not show good performance, was lazy and and often unpunctual will not qualify for the increase.
“If their work record is not commendable, lazy, often late and not paying proper attention, they are not eligible for the rewards promised by the government.
“It is our collective responsibility, whether union or departmental colleagues, to ensure that these two or three slow individuals remain in their positions forever,” he said in his mandate during the Labour Day celebration in Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.
