KUCHING: The Sarawak government, under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg supports the activities of the Askar Wataniah (AW) or Territorial Army in Sarawak.
Sarawak State Secretary and 510 AW Regiment commander Brig Gen Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said that under the leadership of Premier, the Territorial Army Regiment Sarawak Trust Board was established.
“Through this trust board, allocations from various sources are channelled to promote the activities of the AW across various levels.
“That is why our Askar Wataniah Committee, among others, consists of members from various levels and sectors, including department heads and the private sector,” he said during the 35th Territorial Army Commanders’ Conference (SKAW) dinner at Pullman Hotel here last night (May 13).
Abu Bakar further said the initiatives demonstrated the commitment of the Sarawak government especially under the leadership of Abang Johari, who is also the Sarawak Territorial Army Support Committee (JAKPAW) patron.
On another note, he said Sarawak is honoured to have been chosen to host the conference and welcomes the presence of members from various states.
Terengganu hosted the grand event last year, and this year Sarawak was given the opportunity tp play host.
