THE Sarawak government is urged to share access to new technology and innovation with start-ups to produce more technology-based enterprises.
Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the partnership can be implemented through related agencies such as the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and others.
“I suggest that access to new technology can be shared with start-up companies so that they are more aware to new opportunities and demands in the field of technology
“It is hoped that with this approach, we can produce more technology-based companies in Sarawak as well as capable individuals.
“Who knows we can produce our own Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jack Ma and others,” he said during debate on the 2024 State Budget at the State Legislative Assembly sitting on Thursday (Nov 23).
He also suggested that the government diversify its initiatives to provide support funds to start-up companies to support the government’s desire to implement operations based on the concept of environmental sustainability.
“This is in line with the Post- Covid 19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 which emphasises the digital technology aspect because the knowledge in this field is very broad,” he said.
He then said, in supporting the initiative, they are planning to provide a Digital Innovation Hub for the youth in Satok constituency.
“With this, we can support youth development, especially to start business or start-up company because Malaysia depends on the youth economy as well as the small and medium enterprises.
“With facilities like this, youth can be helped with a site or office with a partnership concept that allows them to set up their own companies and be equally involved in the new economic industry,” he explained.
In other matters, he requested that the relevant authorities to look into the traffic congestion in Satok area.
“I saw in the Batu 3 to Batu 10 area, there are five flyovers that have been built. But in Petra Jaya, there is only one underpass at Kipali Roundabout and one flyover at Kulas.
“Therefore, I request that action be taken to overcome the problem of congestion because Satok is not exempted from the issue,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, he suggested that the beautification project from the Brooke Dockyard area on the banks of Kuching could be extended to the Satok area.
“This is by connecting the river banks to the Satok Suspension Bridge and Kampung Kudei because it has the potential to increase the tourism sector so that visitors can visit the village area here.
“This is important not only for us to preserve the heritage art in the village area, but can also give an impetus to economic and business activities such as restaurants and tourism products in my area,” he explained.
He also said that the Kampung Segedup area also has the potential for tourism development with a shortcut connection that has been completed and is in use.
