KUCHING: Sarawak has outlined a clear direction for the state to prepare the youth to take the lead and for the future, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the state has introduced the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 which, among them, emphasises on talent development.

“Sarawak owned five higher-learning institutions namely, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Curtin University Sarawak Campus, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), i-CATS University College, and Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS). So, it is up to you to make use of these institutions to upgrade yourself.

“I am already old. And the ones who will continue are the young ones, and the youth are the future leaders who will continue the development of Sarawak,” he said.

He said when officiating at the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Youth Day 2022 celebration held at Dataran Perayaan Petra Jaya today (Oct 22).

Explaining further on talent development, he said Sarawak wants to develop its talents in all areas including volunteerism, economic development, sports, creative industry and music.

“When we have such talents, Insya-Allah by 2030, Sarawak will become the most developed state in Malaysia with high income. So, let us work together for our future,” he said.

At the same time, Abang Johari said the state government will continue to provide facilities for sports development in the state.

“In the (recently concluded) Malaysian Games (Sukma), we are still the top five (states) that received success.

“Despite not being the champion, it’s alright, we are still in the top five. Insya-Allah one day we will become the champion in Sukma,” he said.
