KUCHING: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has expressed his confidence that Sarawak government is capable of being the best host or organiser for Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024.
He said that Sabah will send a large contingent for SUKMA and Para SUKMA to compete with athletes from other states, including Sarawak.
“We are very confident that the organisation this time will be excellent because we believe Sarawak can do its best,” he said when interviewed by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).
Hajiji was met after receiving a courtesy visit from the SUKMA and Para SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 delegation at his office in Kota Kinabalu today (June 20).
The delegation from Sarawak was led by Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
The courtesy visit was aimed at inviting Sabah to participate in SUKMA and Para SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024.
During the visit, Abdul Karim expressed his appreciation to the Sabah government for agreeing to participate in this year’s SUKMA and Para SUKMA.
“This is the final visit to all the states and Brunei Darussalam, whom we have personally invited to participate. Thank you to Sabah for sending their strongest team this time,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fatimah promised that the Sarawak Para SUKMA contingent would field their strongest team to reclaim the championship title from Sabah.
“We anticipate intense competition between the Sabah and Sarawak Para SUKMA athletes. We will also ensure that we provide strong competition to the Sabah contingent,” she said.
The Sarawak delegation was joined by Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus and Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee, who is also the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 secretariat chief executive officer.
Their delegation was also welcomed by Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Sabah Datuk Fairuz Rendan and permanent secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Sabah Datuk Mansur Asun.
