KUCHING: Sarawak has been recorded as the top state in the country with the highest number of people vaccinated as of March 1.
The Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV) in a post on its Twitter account on Monday (March 1) said that as of 11am, about 7,402 people have been vaccinated.
While the committee said the second highest was Pahang with 2,419 people being vaccinated, followed by Perak (1,277).
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said about 8,323 persons have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the first three days after the state vaccination programme rollout last Friday.
Its advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said these covered those from the nine divisions in the state.
“All 12 divisions will be covered once the second shipment of the vaccine to be transported via air arrives on March 4,” he said in a Facebook post today.
The Minister of Local Government and Housing had conveyed his appreciation to the State Health Department, which is a federal agency to assist in the vaccination programme.
“This is achievable because of the great teamwork in our solidarity and Sarawak united effort (to make sure everyone gets the vaccine) despite Sarawak is not the first state in Malaysia to launch its vaccination programme,” he said.
“Think big, start small, scale up fast. Let’s do it and prove that Sarawak can vaccinate two million Sarawakians and 200,000 residents who are non-Sarawakian,” he said.
Dr Sim once again thanked all those involved in the preparation, logistics, and cooperation of the staff in ensuring the vaccination programme runs smoothly.
