SRI AMAN: The Sarawak government is relieved that the country’s political climate has stabilised and hopes that it can be maintained.

In stating this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the political stability would enable the country to focus on development efforts and achieving the status of a respected nation in the region and globally.

“In accordance with the Madani principles inspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia must be ready to seek new ways to address change and uncertainty, especially as the world moves into an era full of challenges.

“This includes critical issues such as technological advancements, climate change, carbon-neutral environments, and the search for emission-free fuels,” he said.

“Under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, Sarawak has been ahead in addressing all these issues because we started our efforts earlier than other regions. We have not wasted time on turmoil that could be detrimental to all parties,” he said.

Abang Johari said this in his text-of-speech read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the 2024 Sarawak-level Malaysia Day Celebration held at the Indoor Stadium Complex, Sri Aman here on Monday (Sept 16).

The harmony and political stability in Sarawak, he said, have created a conducive environment for the Sarawak government, the private sector, and the people to work together in pursuing the dream of becoming a high-income, advanced region by 2030.

“Sarawak is well-prepared to face the highly challenging era ahead over the next 10 to 20 years, leading up to 2050.

“The state’s reparations have been meticulously laid out through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he said.

Abang Johari said he is confident that as outlined in PCDS 2030, the GPS government’s focus on driving a progressive economy, ensuring social inclusivity, and fostering sustainable environmental preservation will become a reality.

“This is provided if the people of Sarawak continue to work together in all efforts. As the saying goes, ‘United we stand, divided we fall’, he said.
