KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department has arrested 21 foreign individuals in a series of operations held around the city on Monday (May 20).

Dubbed as ‘Ops Selera’, ‘Ops Belanja’ and ‘Ops Kutip’, the operations focused on eateries, grocery stores as well as recreational parks around Tabuan and Gita areas.

Acting on complaints and gathered intelligence, the team examined a total of 28 individuals for their documentation and of these, 21 were taken into custody.

The foreign detainees, comprising 11 men and 10 women, were found to be overstaying, lacking valid travel documents, lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

All of them are being investigated under Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63; as well as Regulation 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Following this, the department assured that continuous efforts will be made to locate and arrest foreigners and employers found to be violating immigration laws.

The public is encouraged to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
