KUCHING: Sarawak have advanced to the last eight of 2019 Maksak football tournament being held in Pahang from August 1 to 4.

They will face Kedah at 2.30pm today for a place in the last four.

Sarawak emerged Group C champions with two wins and one draw.

They drew 1-1 with host Pahang, won 5-0 over Kelantan and defeated Pulau Pinang 3-2.

The team is  made up of four former state players Aidil Mohamad (goalkeeper), Hafizal Marzuki (center), Paul Sambang (attacker) and Samsul Napiah (defence).

It has also been strengthened by some top local players such as Mohd Nor Abu Bakar, Johari Morshidi, Juadjiman Wagino and Suawdi Kaderi.

Team manager Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan said the players performed well and all of them were not injured in any of their matches.

Seventeen teams are taking part in the tournament.

Group A consists of Perlis, Kedah, Selangor and PDRM, Group B (Perak, ATM, N. Nine and Malacca), Group C (Sarawak Pahang, Penang and Kelantan and Group D (Johor, Terengganu, KL Federal Territory, Prison and Sabah).

The teams which make it to the last eight are Sarawak, Kedah, Pahang, Perlis, Perak, Terengganu, Johor and ATM.
