MIRI: The Miri divisional level Sarawak Independence 60th anniversary convoy continued its journey to Subis District on Monday (June 5).
Led by Miri Deputy Resident Juan Ubit, the convoy consisted of 30 motorbike participants, two vehicles from the Miri Divisional Resident Office, a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) vehicle, a police patrol vehicle, and two vehicles from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Miri Branch.
The convoy was flagged off earlier by Miri Resident Jamalie Busri at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Miri Branch compound at 8.30am.
The Subis District stops for the convoy included Kampung Beraya Hall, Bekenu Town, Batu Niah Town, Niah National Park, and Sepupok Niah Hall.
At the final location, Sepupok Niah Hall, the community leaders from the Subis District warmly received the convoy team, and guests were treated to cultural dance performances. Subis District officer Norlila Ulis and Subis District Council acting secretary Nur Farisha Ibrahim were also present.
Meanwhile, the convoy began its journey on the previous Sunday, making stops at Curtin University Malaysia, Luak Esplanade Miri, and Coco Cabana Miri, before concluding at the Miri City Council (MCC).
After visiting Subis, the convoy will proceed to the Beluru and Telang Usan districts on June 6, and then to Marudi on June 7, which will be the final destination before handing over the baton to the Bintulu divisional convoy team on June 10.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is also expected to join the convoy from Miri to Bintulu.
