KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the federal government is keen to learn from Sarawak’s advancements in hydrogen-powered vehicles and Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS).
In his speech at the launch of the MADANI Economy: Empowering the People initiative in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur today, he said that low-carbon development was crucial in transforming the economic landscape towards sustainability.
“This evening, the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) will be launched, aiming to accelerate the energy transition and transform the way energy is generated in Malaysia for climate resilience.
“Key initiatives include increasing capacity for renewable energy generation, installing solar panels on government buildings, and implementing a new energy trading policy through the electricity market system.
“We will also learn from Sarawak’s efforts in promoting hydrogen-powered vehicles and CCUS, and the government intends to provide special incentives to encourage such new green growth activities,” said Anwar.
An additional initiative, he added, was to create biodiversity assets in the carbon trading market through conservation and reforestation efforts. This move aligns with the government’s commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability.
In a similar development, in response to the successful impact of the e-Tunai programme, the federal government has taken further measures to support citizens by providing an e-Tunai credit of RM100 to all adult Malaysians with an annual income of RM100,000 or below.
The objective is to alleviate financial burdens and stimulate economic growth for those in need.
“Approximately 10 million Malaysians, including individuals from the B40 and M40 groups, are expected to be eligible for the e-Tunai credit.
“This budget allocation of around RM1 billion demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing substantial assistance to the targeted population segment,” he said.
