KUCHING: The launch of the Entrepreneur Database System Sarawak (ENBASE) serves as a one-stop platform designed to provide analysis and reports on the actual needs of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that through ENBASE, the Sarawak government will ensure that specialised programmes, such as financial assistance, capacity development, and product promotion, reach the intended audience, including those in rural areas.

“We also emphasise the importance for entrepreneurs, particularly Bumiputera entrepreneurs, to adopt the latest practices and technologies.

“This includes incorporating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of their respective businesses.”

He made these remarks during a press conference after chairing the Sarawak Entrepreneur Development Coordination Committee (SEDCC) 2024 meeting at the Waterfront Hotel here on Monday (Oct 21).

Additionally, Awang Tengah noted that increasing productivity among entrepreneurs also involves capacity-building and upskilling the workforce.

“This also applies to those involved in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). They play a critical role in adapting to new technologies and practices.”

He further stated that the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED) has collaborated with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative (KUSKOP), with KUSKOP providing a grant for Phase One of the Tamu Desa Premises Development Programme this year.

“Inshallah, this programme will continue next year, aiming to improve facilities for our entrepreneurs and hawkers at tamu desa across Sarawak and Sabah.

“My ministry (MINTRED) will continue working hard to implement the programme. Some projects have been completed, while others are still in progress or at the planning stage. These are the ones we will focus on moving forward.”

Also present at the press conference were Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Malcom Mussen Lamoh; Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat; and other distinguished guests.
