KUCHING: A total of 29,295,486 trees have been planted in Sarawak under the ‘100 Million National Tree Planting’ campaign to date.
Forest Department of Sarawak director Datuk Hamden Mohammad, said as such SFC is way ahead of its goal of planting 30 million trees by 2025.
“We are truly thankful that we are ahead of our time, and we also welcome collaboration from private sectors, other government agencies, non-governmental organisation (NGOs) and the public on the tree planting,” he said.
He said this at the opening ceremony of the Jemoreng Scientific Expedition Seminar 2023 here yesterday.
Hamden said one of the most suitable tree species to be planted is none other than the belian tree.
“This is because, the belian tree is the state’s heritage tree and we encourage that it be planted in a suitable area.”
On the seminar, Hamden said its objective is to share information regarding the Jemoreng Scientific Expedition held from July 16-29.
“It is also to encourage community involvement in the conservation and ecotourism opportunity within the Jemoreng forest,” he added.
