KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd recently participated as an exhibitor at InnoTrans, widely regarded as the world’s largest trade fair focused on the rail transport industry.

InnoTrans 2024, held from September 24 to 27, is organised biennially at the Messe Berlin exhibition centre in Berlin, Germany.

“Sarawak Metro’s participation at InnoTrans 2024 was at the invitation of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), as part of MATRADE’s trade delegation of exhibitors under its ‘Astaka Malaysia’ or Malaysian Pavilion,” as stated in a press release by Sarawak Metro today (Oct 7).

This marked the first time that MATRADE organized such an event for the Malaysian rail transport industry at InnoTrans, a collaborative effort with the Malaysia Rail Industry Corporation (MARIC), of which Sarawak Metro is a member.

According to Sarawak Metro’s Chief Executive Officer Ts. Mazli Mustaffa, being an exhibitor at InnoTrans was a significant achievement for the organisation.

“It is a matter of pride for us, especially as a Sarawakian company, to participate in this prestigious event, where key global industry players convene every two years.

“This unique and valuable opportunity, extended to us by MATRADE and MARIC, allowed us not only to share the narrative of Sarawak’s public transport transformation but also to explore potential advisory and consultancy services for other operators in cities with public transport requirements akin to Kuching’s,” Mazli noted.

The organizers have recognized this year’s event as “the largest and most international InnoTrans since its inception in 1996.”

Key highlights of this year’s InnoTrans included 2,940 exhibitors from 59 countries and a record-breaking attendance of approximately 170,000 visitors from 133 countries.

In total, 42 exhibition halls were occupied, featuring 133 vehicles and exhibits in the Outdoor Display and track area, along with 11 buses in the Bus Display.

“This year’s event also saw 226 world premieres and over 1,200 guests from across the globe at the official Opening Ceremony of InnoTrans 2024,” he added.
