KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) was recently announced as the winner of Project Management Institute (PMI) Malaysia’s Project Management Award in the Sustainability Category.

According to PMI Malaysia, the award was in recognition of Sarawak Metro’s exemplary leadership and outstanding project management practices, which have set a new standard for excellence in the industry.

Sarawak Metro’s chief executive officer  Mazli Mustaffa accepted the award from PMI Malaysia Chapter president Dr Joshua Netto during PMI Malaysia’s 30th anniversary celebration dinner in Kuala Lumpur.

Mazli in a statement said it was an honour for Sarawak Metro to win the award, as it was an acknowledgement of the organisation’s dedication in delivering exceptional results and driving innovation, particularly through the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project.

“We are truly honoured to receive this award for the KUTS project, as this achievement is a result of the hard work and dedication of the entire Sarawak Metro team.

“This award is a further motivation for us to remain focused on delivering sustainable public transport solutions for Kuching and setting new standards in the industry,” he said.

He also highlighted the fact that having a team with several PMI-certified managers and executives has greatly benefited the whole organisation.

“Continuous learning is something that I hold dear and I have always encouraged our team, especially the managers to constantly upgrade their knowledge and skills.

“The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification offered by PMI is one of the ways that I believe they can credibly show their abilities to lead and manage projects and I am proud to see that many in Sarawak Metro have taken up the challenge and obtained this certification,” said Mazli.

Sarawak Metro, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), has been entrusted by the Sarawak government to modernise public transport through the KUTS project and is the implementer, operator and maintainer of the KUTS project.
