KUCHING: Any attempt to change the government without a parliamentary vote of confidence or a general election is a betrayal of the fundamental tenets of democracy, the people’s votes, and jeopardises the future of the nation, says Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) Sarawak.
In a statement yesterday, Sarawak MTUC said for better or for worse, voters made a clear choice, and political leaders and parties must respect that choice.
“It was just 22 months ago that voters chose between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General Election.
“PH has the mandate to govern while BN must play the role of an effective and responsible Opposition to keep the government in check,” said Sarawak MTUC.
“That is the very essence of democracy.
“It is very sad that at a time when we face the Covid-19 virus threat, a weak economic outlook, our political leaders are more interested in political manoeuvring,” the statement said.
